Local library

Kapell was initially designed for streaming the Apple Music catalog without blocking local library use.

Kapell’s inspiration

Kapell was built to utilize Apple’s extensive catalog because streaming any album or song we can think of at high quality is a modern luxury. You can also add your own music to your Apple Music Library and sync it across all your devices. Because Kapell leverages Apple Music’s APIs you can also use Kapell to listen to that music.

At the time of this writing, I do not have an extensive Library in Apple Music, which means I have not yet allocated much time to ensuring that it works well or that it is at all enriched. Kapell’s enrichment uses Apple metadata to resolve MusicBrainz data so it’s possible to make this work, but the time hasn’t yet been spent.

Some sort of local tagging tool will be needed so that Kapell knows how to find the info for the song. This isn’t an area I have experience with yet.
