# Kapell

Kapell is a macOS music player for the Apple Music® library you already have. As a track plays, it shows the context streaming apps usually drop: who produced it, who played and wrote on it, what it sampled, where it was recorded, and background on the album and artist. Each fact is cited to its source (MusicBrainz, Wikipedia/Wikidata and others). Coverage is uneven: it is deepest for well-documented music, and Kapell says when it has no data.

**Who it's for:** Mac listeners who want the story behind their music: the liner-notes reader, not the audiophile.

**Coming from Roon:** Kapell brings Roon-style credit browsing (tap a producer, find everything else they worked on) to Apple Music. It is not an audiophile playback engine: no bit-perfect or exclusive mode, no DSP, no multi-room, and no folder or NAS library (music you've added to your Apple Music library plays, but is rarely enriched yet). It's the context layer, bought once instead of rented yearly.

**Requires:** macOS 26 or later and an active Apple Music subscription. Kapell plays through Apple Music; it doesn't host music.
