# Kapell v1.5.0 released

Sharing cool stuff you find in Kapell should be easy!

Version 1.5.0 of Kapell has just been released [on the App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kapell/id6779394524). This release is all — in a roundabout way — about artists. Both the banner ones on the song and the countless behind the boards, instruments, and more. I want Kapell to be a way to share rich little corners of music with friends.

# Sharing Links

Kapell’s `Share` feature allows passing a link to your Kapell-loving friends for albums and for artists. You can, for example, share a link to [Clyde Stubblefield (on Kapell)](https://kapell.fm/l/artist/am/13545286), the drummer on the James Brown’s [Funky Drummer (Pt. 1 & 2) (on Kapell)](https://kapell.fm/l/album/am/1469577132?track=1469577135) which is one of the most sampled drum breaks ever.

![Share menu, opened from Clyde Stubblefield's artist page in Kapell](https://kapell.fm/_astro/shot-v1.5.0-artist-share.Bl9Tfy4S_2uaeOT.webp)

Share a link to Clyde Stubblefield’s artist page and impress your friends with your breakbeat knowledge.

The new trick, however, is a new `Share` item in the `File` menu. This allows you to generate Share links from new places in Kapell. For example, you might still be in a James Brown run and wonder to yourself [what are all the tracks that Bootsy Collins has produced (on Kapell)](https://kapell.fm/l/album/am/1469577132?track=1469577135)?

The “Share” menu item wil now light up in the file menu for many screens. Get to sharing. *Good god, huh!*

## Browse Artists by Genre

Hankering to find a new R&B artist to croon about your love or an Alternative band to… be alternative? Kapell now has an Artists section atop any genre for your to browse:

Alternative artists as a big list. Useful if you like Alternative!.

## Classical Works

I’m not a classical listener, but I noticed there are extensive classical bits around movements, composers, and the like in both Apple’s Catalog and in MusicBrainz. If you happen to be a classical nerd who uses Kapell, drop me a line and we can work together. 🥰

When Kapell encounters a classical album with movements, the movements are added as headers and styled as in [Yo-Yo Ma’s *Six Evolutions* - Back: Cello Suites (on Kapell)](https://kapell.fm/l/album/am/1398580507):

The movements of Bach’s *Suite für Violoncello solor no. 1* are set as headers, and link to the work.

When Apple and MusicBrainz agree — they don’t sometimes! — those movements are linked to the greater “work”, in this case Bach’s *Suite für Violoncello solor no. 1*. That way, you can find other artist’s renditions.

## And More!

- Situations where an artist could have two screens — a disagreement between Apple Music and MusicBrainz — have been fixed.
- A setting has been added for choosing at what point in a song’s progress it will be considered “heard” by Kapell’s Listen Log. It has a 50% (default) and 90% option.
- Scrobbling (ListenBrainz, Last.fm) get the same setting.
- Viewing all of an artists singles & EPs now opens a proper faceted search. And compilations! There was a mess in here.
- Improved the accuracy of “Performed on” searches.
- Artist screens now show the artists latest release.
- Searches no longer hog the input box and reject you trying to click in it. My bad.
- Adjusted the “Just play something” to be pinned to your personal station in Apple Music.
