# It ain't hard to tell

While working on Kapell I am also entering details from music collection’s liner notes into [MusicBrainz](https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Beginners_Guide). This means entering details and eccenctricities for albums like where they were mastered or who producer a track. This layer of information connects many of your favorite — and some of your future favorite! — works. More on that in future posts.

I recently realized that Kapell’s API tracks direct track-level credits but was *not inheriting from the greater album*. For example, albums are commonly mastered by a single person at a single studio which is an album (or release/release-group in MusicBrainz parlance) level relationship. We’re leaving enrichment data on the table!

I adjusted the API to inherit this information and gained information across mastering, engineering, production, and mixer credits. This also benefits albums where production was across all songs, as it is customery to not decorate each individual track with a producer if that producer made *every* track on the album.

Overall, this add more than 4.6M relationships to tracks. Happy listening!
